An escalated argument between two brothers in Berlin-Heiligensee has now led to charges of attempted manslaughter. The Berlin public prosecutor’s office announced this on Wednesday.

According to the prosecution’s indictment, a 53-year-old man got into an argument with his 33-year-old brother in a restaurant on Ruppiner Chaussee on June 7, 2024. During the argument, the older stabbed his younger brother several times with a kitchen knife and left him critically injured.

Two witnesses, including the victim’s eight-year-old son, were apparently able to prevent anything worse from happening by pulling the attacker away and taking the knife from him. The 33-year-old suffered severe blood loss and a chest hemorrhage as a result of the attack and could only be saved by emergency surgery. The victim’s son also sustained a cut, presumably while disarming the attacker.

The public prosecutor’s office has now brought charges against the 53-year-old for attempted manslaughter, dangerous bodily harm and negligent bodily harm. He must answer to the Berlin I Regional Court. The defendant has been in custody since the day of the crime. (Tsp)
