BEACHWOOD, Ohio —

Domestic violence: Cedar Road

At 4:50 p.m. Sept. 5, police were informed by the city prosecutor about a violation of a protection order a woman had filed against her husband. The order was granted following a domestic incident between the woman and her husband on July 29.

Although the man is not supposed to have any contact with his wife, the woman reported on Sept. 5 that she had received, while at work, seven phone messages from her husband. Speaking their native language, the husband, she alleged, made threats to find people to harm her image and reputation.

The man also sent disturbing videos of violent cartoons. The woman saved the messages to a flash drive.

Police contacted the man by phone. He feigned surprise and asked why he was being contacted. He denied sending any messages.

When asked to turn himself in for violating the protection order, he refused.

Police informed the man that a warrant would be issued for his arrest.

The man, 67, of Solon, did appear in Shaker Heights Municipal Court on Sept. 9 on charges associated with the case and was, after court proceedings, taken into custody. He was not given bond.

Damage to public property: Mercantile Road

At 2:20 p.m. Sept. 5, an officer traveled to Mercantile Road where he saw a Toyota Corolla stuck in freshly smoothed, wet cement. The female driver was visibly upset and did not wish to provide a statement.

Road workers at the scene told police that the woman exited from the private drive at 23250 Mercantile Road and turned left, or west. However, at this driveway, there was a construction cone placed in front accompanied by a sign that read, ‘One Way Only’ and pointed east.

Since the woman did not obey the one-way traffic sign, she was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. A towing service was called to remove the car from the cement.

Warrant arrest: Chagrin Boulevard

At 7:20 p.m. Sept. 5, an automated license plate reader informed police that a vehicle owned by someone wanted on a felony warrant had just passed Green Road while traveling west on Chagrin Boulevard.

The driver of the Chevrolet was wanted by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office for dangerous drug possession.

Police conducted a traffic stop in the Giant Eagle parking lot, 24601 Chagrin Blvd. The car’s owner, the wanted man, was in the passenger seat while another man drove.

Police arrested the suspect without incident.

The 57-year-old Cleveland man who was driving was cited for driving with a suspended license.

Warrant arrest: Commerce Park Road

At 10:30 p.m. Sept. 6, police were called to Asurgent Health Clinic, 23412 Commerce Park Road, where it was reported that a man in the sober clinic had a gun and was threatening to shoot other patients.

Clinic staff told the suspect to wait outside for police. Police spoke with the man, who was found not to possess a weapon.

The man explained to police that as he watched a movie, other patients were being rude to him. He then reached into a bag to pull out a towel and another patient claimed he had a gun.

The clinic did not want to pursue a charge, but did want the man told not to return. The clinic offered to find the man another clinic he could attend.

Police, however, learned that the man, 35, of Garfield Heights, was wanted on a Bedford warrant for failure to appear in court on a domestic violence charge. Police took the man into custody and turned him over to Bedford police.

Obstructing official business: Harvard Road

At 10:50 p.m. Sept. 7, an officer stopped a car for speeding on Harvard Road. The driver, a Cleveland boy, 16, told the officer that he had a temporary permit, but said he did not have it with him.

Also in the car was another boy. His age was not stated in the police report. The boy in the passenger seat said he had a license, but it was found that he did not.

When the officer returned to the car, the boys had switched seats, and the former passenger was now in the driver’s seat.

The officer told the boys that the car would be towed and that they should get out of the vehicle so it could be searched. As the officer stepped away from the car, the boys drove away. Police did not pursue.

Police contacted the boys’ mothers. The mother of the 16-year-old said she had a disagreement with her son and hadn’t seen him in four days.

The other boy’s mother said she hadn’t seen her son in a week and that he was driving a car belonging to his father. She said she had reported her son to Garfield Heights police as missing, although the GHPD had no record of such a report.

It was also found that this boy had taken the car from his father’s Cleveland home. The father had reported the theft of his Mazda to police.

The boys now face a charge from Beachwood police of obstructing official business and other possible offenses.

Disorderly conduct: Park East Drive

At 4:30 a.m. Sept. 8, police were called to Home 2 Suites, hotel, 3589 Park East Drive, on a report of multiple females fighting and throwing bottles.

Officers arrived to find several people yelling at each other, but saw no physical fighting.

A hotel manager told officers that only those who had rented rooms would be allowed to stay, and that the others should be removed from the property.

As officers began to remove the other parties, they saw two women begin to argue. One of the women had approached the other and appeared to try and calm her, but was shoved. She responded to the shove by throwing a shoe at the other.

Police arrested without incident the woman who did the shoving, but the other woman had to be taken to the ground in order to be arrested.

The women, 24 and 18, both of Cleveland, were charged with disorderly conduct.
