Maple Heights HS student wounded by box cutter during fight in class, police say

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — A Maple Heights High School student was hospitalized Tuesday when he was wounded with a box cutter during a fight with a classmate during school, police say.

A news release from the police department says two male students had fought in the past when they “exchanged words” in a classroom Tuesday, resulting in them again physically fighting.

Police say they were separated, but one of the males involved grabbed a box cutter from his bookbag and again began fighting with the other student. He used the box cutter to would the other student in the forehead and the stomach.

Security officers and police were able to detain the students. The wounded student was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center and was listed in stable condition, police say. The student who used the box cutter was treated at Marymount Hospital for a cut on his hand.

The suspect student with the box cutter is being held in the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center on a charge of felonious assault, police say.
