BUENOS AIRES, OCT 3 – Lionel Messi is back in Argentina’s squad for FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia, reports Xinhua quoting a statement from the South American national football association yesterday.
Messi, 37, missed the Albiceleste’s September qualifiers against Chile and Colombia with an ankle injury, but is now back in action with his club Inter Miami.
Argentina face Venezuela away on October 10 and face Bolivia in Buenos Aires five days later.
The defending World Cup and Copa America champions currently lead the 10-team South American group with 18 points from eight games.
The top six teams automatically qualify for the 2026 World Cup to be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada while the seventh-placed team advances to an intercontinental playoff. – Named
