ISTANBUL, SEPT 13 – Microsoft announced yesterday that it will eliminate 650 jobs in its Xbox gaming unit, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.

The move comes as the US-based technology company aims to restructure its business for ‘long-term success’, according to a memo published in several news reports.

Microsoft said employees who left the company will receive a compensation package that includes severance benefits, extended health care and job placement assistance services. Compensation packages will vary outside the US, depending on location.

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said there will be an impact on other teams in the company, as “they need to adapt to changing priorities and manage the lifecycle and performance of games,” according to the memo.

The move is the third time Microsoft has cut workforce in its gaming division after completing a US$69 billion acquisition of video game company Activision Blizzard in October 2023.

The company announced at the end of January this year that it would lay off nine percent of its gaming division, a few months after the deal was completed. – Named
