MoE agrees to Sarawak’s 10 demands for strengthening education

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 SEPT – The Malaysian Ministry of Education (KPM) fully agrees with the 10 demands put forward by the Sarawak state government through the Joint Action Committee for Education Development (JTBPP) in an effort to strengthen education in Sarawak.

In a statement today, the Ministry of Education and Culture announced that efforts to strengthen the involvement of the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), the permission to hire Contract of Service (CoS) teachers are subject to appointment by the Education Services Commission (SPP).

In addition, the implementation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs based on needs and priorities as well as involvement in the planning of educational development projects.

“The Ministry of Education also agreed to delegate the authority to approve school maintenance projects funded by the Sarawak Government or any other party other than the Ministry of Education to the Sarawak State Education Director, subject to the guidelines currently in force,” according to the statement.

The statement also informed that the Sarawak State JTBPP meeting was held last February while the Sabah State JTBPP meeting will be held next October.

KPM informed that the Meeting of the Action Council for the Implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) which was chaired by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, yesterday was seen to be able to further strengthen education in Sabah and Sarawak. – Named

The 1963 Malaysia Agreement Implementation Action Council meeting was chaired by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Sabah International Convention Center (SICC) on 12 September. MoE informed that the meeting was seen to further strengthen education in Sabah and Sarawak. – Named
