WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Electric vehicle drivers will soon have some new places to charge their cars. The federal government is giving Kansas more than $6.8 million for nine new EV charging locations.
The charging stations will be along U.S. Highway 400 and Interstates 35 and 135:
- Augusta – Casey’s, 212 W 7th St. (U.S. 400)
- Baxter Springs – Casey’s, 2403 Military Ave. (U.S. 400)
- Lebo – Casey’s, 2740 Fauna Rd. (I-35)
- Dodge City – Love’s, 2505 E Trail St. (U.S. 400)
- Kingman – Casey’s, 442 E D Ave. (U.S. 400)
- Ottawa – Love’s, 203 E 27th St. (I-35)
- Park City – Sinclair, 6209 N Broadway Ave. (I-135)
- Parsons – Casey’s, 516 Main St. (U.S. 400)
- Severy – Pete’s, 218 R Rd. (U.S. 400)
Earlier this year, $4.6 million was provided for six other Kansas locations:
- Emporia, Flying J, 4215 W. U.S. 50 (I-35)Â Â
- Garden City, Love’s, 3285 E U.S. 50 (U.S. 400)Â
- Cherokee, Pete’s, 20 U.S. 400 Â
- Fredonia, Pete’s, 2400 E. Washington St. (U.S. 400)Â
- Belleville, Love’s, 1356 U.S. Highway 81 (U.S. 81)Â
- Pratt, Casey’s, 1900 E. 1st St. (U.S. 400)Â
The locations were selected through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula program. The recipients must provide a minimum 20% private or local cash match.
The NEVI formula aims to have charging stations available every 50 miles of major national highways. The stations must be within one mile of the highways. They must always be accessible to the public and provide other amenities such as food and beverages, restrooms, and shelter from inclement weather.
