More than RM260 million for the Sibu flood mitigation project

SIBU, 6 OCT – A total of RM268 million has been spent by the Federal government under the Sibu Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB) Project which involves three phases in total.

The RTB Sibu project started with the implementation of phase one and phase two involving a contract cost of RM183 million which was fully completed in 2012 and 2015.

Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the project provides flood disaster risk protection benefits to more than 10,000 residents with an area of ​​400 hectares involving residential, commercial and school areas around Jalan Hulu Lanang including the General Operations Force Camp (PGA).

He who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) said this to reporters after a work visit to the Sibu Flood Mitigation Plan Project Site (phase three) and a visit to the flooded area of ​​Kampung Usahajaya, Sentosa in Sibu today.

“RTB phase three involving a contract cost of RM85 million will be fully completed on 1 December 2023. With the implementation of this project, more than 15,000 residents in Kampung Datu, Kampung Hilir, Kampung Nangka, Kampung Datu Baru and residential and commercial areas around Jalan Bandong, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg and Jalan Awang Ramli Amit as well as an area of ​​270 hectares can be protected from the risk of flood disasters,” he said.

Fadillah said in order to continue the implementation of RTB Sibu, the Sarawak government under RMK-12 has approved a phase four project scheme worth RM120 million which is expected to protect an area of ​​618 hectares when completed, most of which covers the Bukit Assek area. – Named
