Mount Merapi in Indonesia released 21 lava flows

JAKARTA, 4 OCT – Indonesia’s most active volcano, Mount Merapi, emitted 21 lava flows towards the southwest yesterday, according to the Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center, reported Xinhua.

“The lava flow is moving towards the Bebeng River, reaching up to 1,500 meters (m),” said Center Head, Agus Budi Santoso.

The center urged people to avoid any activity in danger zones that may be affected by lava flows and hot clouds.

“Monitoring data shows that the magma supply is still continuing, which can trigger hot clouds in potentially dangerous areas,” said Santoso.

The danger zone covers up to seven kilometers in the south-southwest sector and three kilometers to the southeast of the volcano. In the event of an explosive eruption, volcanic material can reach up to three kilometers from the summit.

Located in Central Java and Yogyakarta, this 2,968m high volcano is currently in Level III, or alert status. – Named
