Sport: Griekspoor served well and secured advancement with the numbers 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Rune did not play to a single break point in the first set, and the Dutchman used his four to secure the upper hand in the match.

The Dane fought back in the match by breaking in the first game of the next set and eventually securing 1-1 in the match. But when Rune fell behind 0-3 early in the decisive set, the road to victory was too long.

Rune made it to the semi-finals in Munich last week, but then had to lose to Jan-Lennard Struff. The Dane has not won three straight matches since the tournament in Mexico in early March.

Casper Ruud, on the other hand, advanced to the third round of the tournament in Madrid after defeating Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic on Saturday.
