New garden: Obelisk completely restored

The obelisk in the New Garden, which is striking because of its blue-gray color, has been restored. As the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation (SPSG) announced on Thursday, construction work on the structure south of the Marble Palace has been completed. The more than ten-meter-high monolith made of blue-gray Priborn marble with four medallions showing men’s heads at different ages and referring to the four seasons, has been restored since 2022. The building, which was built in 1793/94, was once built according to a design by Carl Gotthard Langhans, the medallions made of Carrara marble were worked by Johann Christoph Wohler according to designs by Johann Gottfried Schadow.
