Newly promoted Ulm celebrates first win of the season in Elversberg

Newly promoted SSV 1846 Ulm celebrated its first win of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga and inflicted SV Elversberg’s first home defeat of the season. Thanks to goals from Johannes Reichert (28th minute/penalty), Felix Higl (60th) and Philipp Strompf (77th), the Swabians achieved a well-deserved 3-1 (1-0) victory. Luca Schnellbacher scored for Elversberg (62nd).

Ulm started the match bravely and deservedly took the lead. When Maurice Krattenmacher was brought down in the penalty area by Maximilian Rohr, referee Patrick Schwengers awarded a penalty. Reichert converted safely with a low shot into the bottom left corner. Only after falling behind did the home team act more determinedly and Lukas Petkov and Schnellbacher had good chances to equalize, but these were not used.

This came back to haunt the visitors after the break. Higl scored with a direct free kick to make it 2-0 for the visitors. Just 120 seconds later, Schnellbacher gave the Saarlanders new hope with his goal, who were lucky shortly afterwards. Semih Sahin hit Strompf in the face with his hand in his own penalty area, but Schwengers let play continue and stuck to his decision even after viewing the video images. Ulm was unimpressed and struck again through Strompf.
