Nine people were injured in an accident on a party boat in Berlin-Mitte. Four of them were seriously injured, the fire department announced in the evening. Five guests only suffered minor injuries in the incident on the Spree. According to initial findings, the roof of the event boat had collapsed.
Initially, the fire department spoke of around 30 injured people. In total, around 120 people were said to have been partying on the boat. It was not immediately clear what kind of party group it was. The exact course of events and the cause of the accident are still to be clarified.
The fire brigade was deployed in large numbers on the fishing island. The water itself and the shore were searched using a multi-purpose boat. However, no other people were found in the water. According to the fire brigade, many people had to be examined and then cared for by the emergency services. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals. A rescue helicopter was also deployed.
