The son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit (51), Marius Borg Høiby, has been temporarily arrested again. The background to this is the alleged violation of a recently imposed contact ban against the 27-year-old, as the police in the capital Oslo announced.
The stepson of heir to the throne Crown Prince Haakon (51) is said to have repeatedly had contact with a woman against her will, who is considered to be the victim of an incident on August 4. There was a risk of repetition, the statement said. He will be given the opportunity to comment on the allegations.
Høiby denies the allegations
Høiby’s lawyer Øyvind Bratlien told the news agency NTB that his client was accused of calling his ex-girlfriend from a withheld number, but that he denied the allegations. “In my 17 years as a criminal defense lawyer, I have never seen an arrest based on such a thin factual basis,” he said. NTB later reported that Høiby had since been released.
On August 4, Høiby was arrested in Oslo on charges of assault and property damage and was released the following day. In a written statement, he admitted that he had been violent towards his girlfriend while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine and had destroyed things in her apartment.
Two other women accuse Høiby
The charge of assault has been expanded to include negligent conduct and violation of the contact ban, according to the current police statement. Høiby is also charged with alleged abuse in close relationships with two other women. There is also a charge of threatening a fourth person.
Høiby is Mette-Marit’s son from a previous relationship. He is a member of the royal family but is not an official member of the royal house.
