BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 25 – His Royal Highness Pengiran Anak His wife Pengiran Anak Sarah has agreed to complete the Inauguration of the 20th International School of Brunei (ISB BGIC) Borneo Global Issues Conference, which took place at the International Conference Center (ICC), Berakas today.
At the event, the Executive Principal and Chief Executive Officer of ISB, Dominic Morley in his welcome speech stated that he was very happy to be able to host ISB BGIC for the promotion of meaningful cooperation and collaboration between various sectors that benefit the youth, schools, communities and the country. .
He said that the theme of this year’s conference is very timely and relevant which focuses on Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) which is: Quality Education- How Can We Ensure That Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education Supports Sustainable Development?
Dominic Morley added that ISB BGIC has provided a variety of interesting educational experiences beyond the classroom, benefiting youth and students in the face of economic crisis, basic food insecurity and increasing inequality.
Such experiential opportunities can enhance their soft skills and understanding of global issues as they work together to produce workable resolutions while maintaining international understanding, cooperation and harmony.
Meanwhile, the Secretaries General of ISB BGIC, Zara Jeffri, Emilka and Francisca Vega in their welcoming prayers expressed their appreciation to the partners and sponsors who provided support in making the conference a success.
With the participation of nearly 300 students from 23 schools, the conference gave participants the opportunity to emulate world leaders in reflecting on serious global issues and working together to produce fair and practical resolutions.
Also present at the opening of the conference were the Deputy Chairman of the ISB Board of Directors, Nicholas King; members of the ISB Board of Directors, Haji Rashid Abdul Razak, Roy David Kurian, Sharon Tan, Jorge Francisco Vega Wong Chin Toon; as well as Permanent Secretary (Community), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari, and General Manager of ISB, Vienna Law.
The conference was followed by a keynote presentation on the theme of the conference Sustainable Development Goal 4 delivered by two invited presenters, the Motivational Speaker, Hon. Dr Stuart Lawrence and International Frontline Humanitarian and Race4Good Founder, Linda Cruse.
During the opening ceremony, His Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah also agreed to give a speech and present certificates of participation to representatives from 23 schools that participated in the conference as well as certificates of appreciation to the sponsors of the event.
ISB BGIC is an annual United Nations-style conference led by school students where participants represent their respective countries to present various views on current and real-world issues.
Following the inauguration of the conference, the 20th ISB BGIC took place at the International Conference Center (ICC), Berakas from today until October 27 featuring keynote sessions, committee discussions and the general assembly.
