TEHRAN, OCT 16 – One person died and six others were injured in a major fire at a refinery in Khuzestan province, southwestern Iran yesterday, reported AFPciting the semi-official news agency Tasnim.
Among the injured, two suffered burns exceeding 80 percent, according to Iran’s Emergency Medical Service.
The fire started as a result of a tanker truck colliding with a petrol tank at the Pars Petro refinery in Shushtar County, reports said Tasnimciting the district’s Governor Seyyed Mohsen Seyyed Mousavi.
Immediately after the fire was reported, firefighters were sent to the scene and the fire was contained, but the fire department is still on alert, the governor said.
“Failure to comply with safety measures while refueling is the cause of the fire,” said Director General of the Khuzestan Crisis Management Department, Ali Abdollahi. – Bernama/AFP
