Ops Bersih: Individuals, companies subject to compounding

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 2 – The Licensing and Enforcement Division, Brunei and Muara District Department (JDBM) has issued two compounds against an individual and a company for illegally dumping garbage during Operation Bersih which was conducted recently.

The individual known as Ejaz Ahmad, holder of No. Passport B6595593, was imposed a compound fine of $100 for having committed an offense under the Rampaian Offenses Act (Amendment 2021) Chapter 12 (1)(a). While the Kedai Makan company, M Sherwani Sdn Bhd, was charged a compound fine of $500 for piling rubbish in an unauthorized area.

If this compound fine is not settled within seven days, the case will be taken to court. Under the Comprehensive Offenses Act (Amendment 2021), individuals found guilty can be fined not more than $3,000, while companies can be fined not more than $30,000 or jail for 12 months, or both.

JDBM also called on the public to cooperate by reporting any illegal dumping activities. The public is asked to include the location of the incident and photos as evidence via a WhatsApp message on 8321581.
