Orange Elementary and Middle School PTA raises more than ,000 in Walkathon

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – The Orange Elementary and Middle School PTA raised more than $31,000 in its annual Walkathon held recently.

The Walkathon theme was “Walking Through the Decades.”

Moreland Hills Elementary School held the culminating event Oct. 18. It included a walk from the school to the campus fields, where organizers planned games and obstacle courses for each class.

After the field rotation, students headed to a dance party in front of the school. Students had the opportunity to sign a banner commemorating the event.

Orange Inclusive Preschool students also held a walk around their building loop earlier in the week and brought in more than $1,000.

Brady Middle School will hold an event at the end of October.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Orange PTA.

All proceeds directly benefit the school and community.

Outdoor experience

Beautiful weather and a vibrant natural backdrop made for a perfect way to culminate two weeks of the recent Brady Middle School sixth-grade outdoor environmental experience, according to a news release from the Orange City School District.

The annual event at Cuyahoga Valley National Park was divided into two one-week experiences by team and enabled the sixth-graders to engage in hands-on exploration of their science curriculum in a natural environment.

Throughout the week, each team was guided by Cuyahoga Valley Environmental Education Center staff members who encouraged the students to think outside the box while setting up challenges so the students could discover for themselves how nature evolves.

Divided into teams named for lakes and rivers, the students had to interpret geological and cultural changes, determine the quality of the Cuyahoga River – including determining dissolved oxygen, phosphates, turbidity and pH levels – and explore an ecosystem to assess the quality of the environment.

Lessons spanned the sixth-grade curriculum with assignments encompassing history, math and language arts through the required writing assignments.
