BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 22 – The Magistrate’s Court yesterday sentenced a 30-year-old Bangladeshi man to five months in prison with three lashes for overstaying.

Magistrate Syaffina binti Shahif sentenced Nasim Uddin to prison following his guilty plea to the charges brought by Immigration Public Prosecutor Adi Yusra bin Haji Adanan.

The punishment follows a recent law enforcement operation carried out by the Law Enforcement Division of the National Immigration and Registration Department (JIPK) in Kuala Belait under Operation Kabat 116/2024, which targeted the residences of foreign workers in Mukim Liang.

In the operation, the officers checked several documents of foreign workers causing three individuals to be arrested for failing to provide valid documents. Further investigation found that two of the individuals had overstayed their immigration passes, also in violation of Section 15(1) of the Immigration Act, while the other was suspected of harboring immigration offenders, an offense under Section 55(1)(d) under the same act. .

JIPK encourages the public to report immigration violations by calling the line hotline JIPK at 8734888 or 8753888 (Bandar Seri Begawan) or 8984111 (Kuala Belait).
