Padah failed to give public holidays

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 13 OCT – A total of two offenses were found during Alert Operation 225/2024 which was conducted by the Law Enforcement Division, Department of Labor for retail shop activities in Kampung Sengkurong Commercial Building Area on 2 October.

The operation is conducted to enforce and ensure that the Employment Order 2009 is complied with by employers.

The offenses found were under the Employment Order 2009 committed by the employer which is Chapter 70 failing to provide gazetted public holidays and Chapter 71 failing to provide paid annual leave to employees.

For those offences, if found, the employer may be subject to a compound fine of not more than $1,000 for each offence. If you fail to pay the compound fine, the employer will be brought to court.

In relation to that, the Labor Department would like to remind employers to always monitor employee welfare matters in accordance with the requirements of the Employment Order, 2009 such as giving public holidays that are gazetted and giving paid annual leave of no less than seven days in the first year of working with the employer and will increase in the following years.
