Painesville man faces murder charges after police say he killed his father

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Painesville man is a facing first-degree murder charge after police say he shot his father to death.

Christopher Paul Farmer, 23, pleaded not guilty during his Monday arraignment in Painesville Municipal Court and is being held without bond, said Painesville Police Lt. Toby Burgett.

After midnight Sunday, police responded to the 300 block of Sanford Street after learning of a report of a shooting there. When officers arrived, they found that Farmer’s 67-year-old father, Christopher, had been fatally shot. Officers interviewed the son, arrested him and charged him with murder, according to police.

The Painesville firefighters, the Lake County coroner and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation also assisted in the case.

Farmer is being held at Lake County Jail, according to jail records.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 23 at Painesville Municipal Court.
