PARIS, AUGUST 12, ARMENPRESS. The head coach of the men’s weightlifting team of Armenia, Pashik Alaverdyan, summarized the performances of the Armenian weightlifters at the 33rd Summer Olympic Games.

According to “Armenpress”, Pashik Alaverdyan spoke about the performances of Armenian athletes in a conversation with journalists.

Referring to the result recorded by Varazdat Lalayan, the representative of Armenia in the super heavyweight category, who won the silver medal, losing to Lasha Talakhadze, representing Georgia, the head coach specifically said: “Every time Lasha beat us, this time we lost to Lasha. I don’t think he will stay in weightlifting because his form is not the best.”

Speaking about the performance of 102 kg Garik Karapetyan, who was 4th in the Olympic Games, Alaverdyan expressed dissatisfaction with his performance.

“Garik did a very bad job here. If he managed to increase it in the snatch exercise, but not in the push exercise. He did very well in push-ups at the World Cup, if he could do the same here, he would be among the medal winners,” he said.

Pashik Alaverdyan also mentioned that the representatives of the Armenian Olympic team felt at home in Paris. “I didn’t even feel that we were in a foreign country. People in Paris were happy to know that we are from Armenia. We thank the Armenians of France, as well as the French for hosting us so kindly,” said Alaverdyan.

At the 33rd Olympic Games held in Paris, the capital of France, Armenia represented 15 athletes and won 4 medals. Gymnast Artur Davtyan, wrestler Artur Aleksanyan, weightlifter Varazdat Lalayan became silver medalists of the Summer Olympics. Wrestler Malkhas Amoyan won a bronze medal.
