PARIS, AUGUST 11, ARMENPRESS. The 33rd Summer Olympics in Paris are over.
According to the correspondent of “Armenpress”, the closing ceremony held in the legendary stadium of Paris – “Stade de France” was quite comprehensive. The ceremony started with the transfer of the flame from the Place du Louvre to the stadium. It was entrusted to a member of the French Olympic team, four-time Olympic champion swimmer Leon Marchand.
French President Emmanuel Macron and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach were present at the official ceremony.
At the closing ceremony, the flag bearer of Armenia was the gold, double silver, bronze medal winner of the Olympic Games, 7-time European champion, four-time World Championship wrestler Artur Aleksanyan.
It was during the closing ceremony that the awarding ceremony of the oldest sport of the Olympic Games, the marathon, took place. In the women’s competition, the OC gold medalist is Sifan Hasan from the Netherlands.
“Dear athletes, you were magical, you gave us many moments of happiness, you gave us moments of joy, thank you. And we will reunite again when the time comes, at the next games in Los Angeles,” said Tony Estangen, president of the “Paris-2024” organizing committee.
In his speech, the president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, emphasized that by uniting in Paris, the athletes made it brighter.
“You inspired us, you inspired the whole world, living side by side these days, even when some of your countries are at odds with each other. Thank you for being able to show us that it is possible to create a better world. These games were sensational from start to finish. A new era of games started with the Paris Games,” he said.
The official closing ceremony ended with the transfer of the Olympic flag from Paris to Los Angeles. It was carried out of the stadium by the famous Hollywood actor Tom Cruise.
The 2028 Olympics will be held in Los Angeles.
At the 33rd Olympic Games held in Paris, the capital of France, Armenia represented 15 athletes and won 4 medals.
Gymnast Artur Davtyan, wrestler Artur Aleksanyan, weightlifter Varazdat Lalayan became silver medal winners of the Summer Olympic Games. Wrestler Malkhas Amoyan won bronze.
