WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Rose Hill Police Department wants people to know it is still investigating the case of a little girl found buried in a backyard last month. On Thursday, Police Chief Taylor Parlier said the case covers a geographical area outside Rose Hill and the state.
The child, Kennedy Jean Schroer, was born on July 14, 2014. Investigators believe she died in November 2020, when she would have been six years old. She was found in the backyard of her adoptive parents’ home on Sept. 11.
“After four years, there is limited physical evidence to be found,” Parlier said. “We are gathering data points from points in time exceeding these last four years, and as they come in, they create the mosaic of the case. Once that mosaic is complete, then we will have enough information to forward charges in this case.”
Police have previously said that the adoptive parents have been responsive to investigators.
Parlier did not elaborate on why the geographical area has spread so far.
“As I have said before, we have numerous agencies working on this case across city, county, state, and federal.”
The Sedgwick County Forensic Science Center was not able to determine a cause of death due to decomposition. Police say the forensic preliminary report gave findings that no visible injuries were observed, nor were any healing or healed injuries observable.
