Popular young actress, singer reveals she can’t bear children

Selena Gomez, the former Disney star who currently is in the Hulu hit “Only Murders in the Building,” says in a recent interview that she will not be able to carry her own children because of medical issues.

“I haven’t ever said this,” Gomez tells Vanity Fair. “But I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”

Gomez, 32, says in the article she still looks forward to starting a family someday with her boyfriend, Benny Blanco.

“I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone,” Gomez says. “I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. … At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”

Gomez was diagnosed with lupus in 2015.

Gomez, who rose to fame in 2007 when she starred in the Disney TV series “Wizards of Waverly Place.” Besides acting in several TV shows and movies, Gomez also has had success as a singer. Her first single as a solo artist, “Come and Get It” in 2013, reached No. 6 on the Billboard chart. Her first solo album, “Stars Dance,” reached No. 1. “Revival” in 2015 and “Rare” in 2020 also hit No. 1.

But Gomez has had the most success with her makeup and cosmetics brand, Rare Beauty, which was founded in 2019. A report in Bloomberg says Gomez is one of the youngest people ever to be confirmed a billionaire with a net worth of $1.3 billion.

Gomez, who is the third-most followed person on Instagram with 424 million followers, also has endorsement deals with Puma and Coach for a reported $30 million and $10 million, respectively.
