Practice safe electrical installation

By Sim YH –

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 17 – Electrical hazards are one of the most common accidents that occur at work, especially at construction sites.

By identifying electrical hazards it will help raise awareness of the consequences or risks.

The risk of exposure to electricity often causes injury to workers and in worst case scenarios can lead to death.

The matter was stated by the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy) in the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM), Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra in his welcome speech at the Safe Electrical Installation Best Practices Ceremony which took place at the Dewan Teater, JPM, today .

According to him, it is unfortunate to note that injuries and deaths at work occur almost every year in Brunei Darussalam where most of them are caused by unsafe practices or unsafe electrical installation at work.

In that connection, it is hoped that the best practice documents of safe electrical installation can be a practical guideline to all relevant stakeholders towards safe electrical installation in the country.

He encouraged the Electrical Safety Committee (ESCOM) to continue to take a strategic and collective approach to addressing current and future issues ensuring compliance with the Workplace Safety and Health Order 2009 and its relevant regulations.

In line with Brunei Vision 2035, Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira emphasized the importance of safe electricity use with the goal of reducing work-related deaths to zero.

The effort, he stressed, requires a nationwide approach to ensure Brunei becomes a safe place to work and live.
