PREPanita organizes a preparation forum to face the world of work

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, SEPT 18- To empower higher education students to be mentally prepared to enter the world of work and face the challenges well, about 130 IBTE students yesterday attended two PREPanita forums titled Welcome to the World of Work and Communi-Kasih: Communication Is The Key To Happiness located at the IBTE Nakhoda Ragam Campus yesterday.

The forum organized by the Department of Community Development (JAPEM) in collaboration with government agencies and non-governmental organizations was held with the aim of providing exposure on the issues of sexual harassment in the workplace in addition to raising awareness of the importance of women’s rights and preparing themselves to face unexpected problems or misfortunes. In addition, it also aims to provide exposure on positive application in life and procedures to dare to come forward.

According to the statement, the first forum on the world of work was conducted by Dayang Siti Zaharah binti Haji Abdul Razak from JAPEM as moderator. The panel members consisted of Community Development Officer, JAPEM, Dayang Siti Alifah binti Awang Osman; Level One Special Duties Officer, Youth Development Center, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (KKBS), Dayang Anisa binti Haji Taib and Legal Adviser and Public Prosecutor, Attorney General’s Office, Dayang Sabrina binti Haji Mahmud.

Dayang Siti Alifah has shared effective methods to deal with women who face excessive pressure at work by doing activities that can reduce pressure/stress and burnout. In addition, spending quality time with family, increasing work productivity and improving social relationships are very important to maintain a balance between work and life, according to him. One of the tips he shared was the importance of time management in achieving balance.

Dayang Anisa shared several short and long-term skills training programs run by the Youth Development Center, KKBS, such as the Agriculture and Plantation Program, the Paddy Youth Program, the Incubator Program and the Skills Artisan Program.

Dayang Sabrina also shared her experience in empowering knowledgeable and authoritative women in the world of work. He emphasized the importance of communication especially when it comes to personal issues such as sexual harassment.

Next, the second forum on communication was conducted by Dayang Siti Zaharah binti Haji Abdul Razak from JAPEM as moderator. The panel members consisted of the Family Counseling Service Officer, Syariah Affairs Department, Ustazah Dayang Salmah binti Haji Ahmad; Head of the Women and Child Abuse Crime Investigation Unit, Criminal Investigation Department, DSP Norkhatijah binti Haji Zainal; Medical Welfare Officer, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital (RIPAS), Dr Hajah Nurizni binti Pg DP Haji Sallehuddin and Founder Bleed SafelyDayang Siti Zaimah binti Roslan.

Ustazah Dayang Salmah has shared about the role of men from an Islamic perspective as well as social interaction between women and men according to Sharia. He emphasized that the role of men is as a leader in the family, in addition to being a protector for other family members, in addition to emphasizing that the relationship between men and women must be well maintained to prevent unwanted things from happening.

Meanwhile, DSP Norkhatijah shared about the cases received regarding women and the actions that can be taken. He stated that the highest cases are cases of domestic violence against the wife and also sexual cases that degrade dignity and called for always being careful and immediately reporting to the teaching staff as an initial action, apart from making a report to the authorities.

Dr. Hajah Nurizni shared that among the highest cases dealt with by the Hospital’s Medical Welfare are cases of abuse of women and children, underage pregnancies and women who give birth out of wedlock. In terms of mental health, he emphasized to identify the symptoms of mental health problems and called on the students to know the importance self-care and ask for help when facing difficulties.

Dayang Siti Zaimah also shared a program to increase awareness of women’s health, especially regarding menstrual and childbirth pains, as well as the importance of using appropriate products, especially for teenagers who have just experienced menstruation.
