Paris Saint-Germain remains defiant in withholding €55 million owed to Kylian Mbappé despite losing an appeal.
A report on Friday by Goal noted that the French league’s appeals commission ruled against the club, ordering them to pay the amount.
However, PSG has stated their intention to contest the decision in court.
A PSG spokesperson told RMC Sport, “Now that the appeals committee has confirmed the opinion of the legal committee, PSG has decided to take the case to the appropriate courts while continuing to try to find an amicable solution with the player.”
The club insists it owes its former striker nothing, claiming Mbappé waived the payment after agreeing to rejoin the first-team squad last season. However, Mbappé, who transferred to Real Madrid this summer, is seeking the full amount and has rejected any offers of mediation.
PSG expressed frustration over Mbappé’s stance, with their spokesperson adding, “The player has made clear and repeated public and private commitments that the club is simply asking him to honour and respect, given the unprecedented advantages he has enjoyed from the club over seven years in Paris.”
PSG emphasised their desire to resolve the matter but warned that they would have no choice but to pursue legal action if the dispute continued.
“The club hopes that its word will be respected, knowing that if the player, unfortunately, decides to pursue this dispute, the club will be obliged to have it judged by the competent courts and to have the prejudice it has suffered, and continues to suffer as a result of the incomprehensible position of its former player, recognised. It is a question of good faith, honesty, upholding values, and respect for the institution of Paris and its supporters,” the spokesperson added.
The legal battle appears set to continue as Mbappé prepares for his next challenge on the pitch, playing for Real Madrid in the highly anticipated El Clásico against Barcelona this weekend.
