BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, OCT 20 – A 33-year-old local man pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to the charge of stealing a fiberglass boat and an engine from a house in Kampung Sungai Matan, Jalan Kota Batu.

Magistrate Hajah Normazdina binti Haji Mohd Maskub set October 22 to sentence Nurul Furqan bin Awang Morshidi.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Abdul Musawwir bin Haji Mahli informed the court that Nurul Furqan and two of his friends did the activity between August 8 and 9. The stolen items included a boat and a 15HP engine estimated to be worth $7,000.

The prosecution revealed that the accused and his friends were fishing near Kampung Pelambaian when they saw the unattended boat tied to a house.

Then, the accused and one of his friends untied the boat and took it to Kampung Setia B. The accused then admitted that he had sold the boat engine for $350 and received $100 from the proceeds of the sale, while the rest was taken by his accomplice.

The investigation that led to the arrest of the accused only succeeded in finding the stolen boat, while the engine has yet to be found. The court was also informed that the accused has a past criminal record involving property-related offences.

Nurul Furqan is now facing punishment under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22, which carries a maximum prison sentence of three years, a fine, or both.
