Crime and justice: R. Kelly was sentenced last February to 20 years in prison, but his lawyers argued that the case was time-barred before it came to trial. This was rejected by a federal appeals court on Friday.

– Robert Sylvester Kelly abused underage girls for years. Through a complex system, he ensured the silence of the victims and therefore avoided the consequences for a long time, the court ruling states.

He thought that by delaying the process he would avoid prosecution, but that is not the case. The verdict is upheld, it says.

56-year-old Kelly is currently serving a sentence of 30 years in prison for violence and human trafficking.
