Since Wednesday morning Due to extensive construction work between Tiergarten and Friedrichstraße, no S-Bahn trains more. According to a statement from the S-Bahn, the following changes will take place on the route by Monday, September 9th at 1:30 a.m.:

  • S3 commutes between Spandau and Tiergarten as well as Friedrichstraße and Erkner.
  • S5 only runs from Friedrichstraße to Strausberg Nord.
  • S7 commutes between Potsdam and the Zoo or Friedrichstraße and Ahrensfelde.
  • S9 commutes between Spandau and Tiergarten as well as Friedrichstraße and BER.

The Regional transport According to information from the “rbb“ will not be affected by the construction work. Passengers can therefore use the regional trains RE1, RE2, RE7, RE8 and RB23. The subways can also serve as an alternative. In this case the U2 or U5.

The S-Bahn has also set up a rail replacement service. The S7 bus runs between Friedrichstrasse (Reichstagsufer) and Zoo (near the Federal Police Station) and stops at Hauptbahnhof, Bellevue and Tiergarten.

It is the fourth and final construction phase of the large-scale renovation work on the S-Bahn line. Work is being carried out on the switches on Friedrichstrasse and on the bridges in Alt-Moabit. A roadway transition structure at the main station also needs to be renewed, according to S-Bahn Berlin.

In order to accommodate passengers, the S-Bahn has a tariff concession: Until Monday, passengers can use tickets from the Berlin short-distance tariff for a regional train journey (DB Regio and Odeg) for up to three S-Bahn stations. However, the S-Bahn stations where the trains do not stop are also counted. However, it is possible to get on at the zoo, for example, and travel to the main station with a short-distance ticket. These are not normally valid on regional trains. (Tsp)
