“Potsdam stays colorful,” “Human rights instead of right-wing people” or “Hate is not an opinion” are written on the posters: One day before the Brandenburg election, a rally with concerts by bands such as Madsen and Sportfreunde Stiller is taking place in Potsdam. At the start of the event under the motto “Stay stable – against the AfD and the shift to the right,” hundreds gathered on Luisenplatz in the early afternoon – including many families with children. The call was made by the “No Bock on Nazis” initiative and the Brandenburg alliance “Bridges instead of trenches.”
“We’re just trying to wake everyone up again across the country so that everyone goes to vote tomorrow,” said Joshi, co-organizer and singer of the Berlin punk rock band ZSK. “We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the AfD at least doesn’t become the strongest force.” At the rally, numerous people held up a sign calling for the AfD to be banned. The Brandenburg Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies the AfD as a suspected right-wing extremist case. In the last poll before the election, the party was just ahead of the SPD.
Numerous bands will provide musical accompaniment to the rally – including Sportfreunde Stiller and Madsen in the evening. The organizers are expecting several thousand participants.
