Remco Evenepoel is time trial world champion for the second time. The Belgian won the title fights in Zurich on Sunday ahead of Filippo Ganna. After 46.1 kilometers, Evenepoel was six seconds faster than the Italian. Bronze went to Ganna’s compatriot and European champion Edoardo Affini, who was 54 seconds slower than the world champion. The German starters Miguel Heidemann and Maximilian Schachmann took 20th and 23rd place.
Evenepoel won his first World Championship gold in a race against the clock last year. On the way from the Velodrome Oerlikon to Zurich’s Sechseläutenplatz, the 24-year-old was ahead of Ganna, who was himself time trial world champion in 2020 and 2021, at every intermediate time. This continues Evenepoel’s golden streak, having already won the time trial and road race at the Paris Summer Games.
