Rocky River celebrates the arts at annual fall festival

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — This year’s Rocky River Fall Art Festival didn’t disappoint in any way.

With more than 40 vendors to peruse, arts and crafts fans strolled slowly through the festival grounds on Saturday (Sept. 14).

The festival, hosted by the Rocky River Parks and Recreation Foundation, was held in the usual place: a closed-off area of “Old River” where there are quite a few stores and eateries.

All were smiling, chatting and asking many questions of the artisans.

Many tents featured jewelry that was sparkling in the sun. Paintings were spread out and hung beautifully in larger tents.

In one, there were small paintings done by a man and his wife. The small canvases were folded all around the squared-off sides of what looked like a wooden box that could be hung immediately.

The galleries, shops and eateries were all doing good business as well, with shoppers and diners were coming and going in a steady stream.

A special attraction was the antique Rocky River fire engine that appears at many events. It always captures the interest of history lovers.

The Rocky River Parks and Recreation Foundation plays an integral part in the vitality of the community.

“Our city is unique in its geographic boundary location along the shores of Lake Erie, providing recreational opportunities, leisure time activity and programs for its residents within its 10 parks.” the foundation’s information notes.

The foundation was formed by community volunteers who recognized the importance of preserving these parks and sought to enhance the park facilities, recreational improvements and community programming.
