Rocky River students put the pedal to their mettle to raise funds for pediatric cancer research

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — What an incredible display of community spirit and generosity at Rocky River’s Kensington Elementary School, where students came together Sunday (Sept. 29) for the Trike and Bike event.

They raised an impressive $46,000 for the Cleveland Clinic’s pediatric cancer initiatives.

The efforts of these young students showcased how even the smallest acts of kindness can have a significant impact when done collectively.

According to event chair Kate Horne, about 124 students participated in the second year of Trike and Bike.

The kids, ranging in age from 7 to 12, brought an assortment of wheeled transportation: bikes, trikes, scooters and even strollers for the youngest participants, with moms and dads helping push the little ones along.

Adam Gundlach, who coordinated the event, ensured that it was a lively and memorable day.

He introduced a restaurant tent from Crumb & Spigot, thanks to owner Jamy Bolling, offering coupons to attendees.

There was also a tent for a DJ to keep the energy high, with music provided by Kris Koch Music from Brunswick.

Face painting, games and dancing added to the festive atmosphere.

Koch, a tall and enthusiastic DJ, didn’t just play music from behind a booth. He jumped into the fun, joining the kids in various dances, creating an engaging and interactive experience for all involved.

The Rocky River Police Department was present to ensure everyone’s safety. They carefully monitored the parking lot of Kensington Elementary and the closed streets where the students completed multiple laps, riding in the light rain that fell throughout the event.

The gathering exemplified the power of community, with children, families and local organizations uniting for a worthy cause, making a real difference in the lives of others.
