San Marino ends years of winless streak

San Marino pulled off a sensation at the start of the Nations League. For the first time in over 20 years, the national football team of the small state in the north of central Italy won an international match. Thanks to a goal by Nicko Sensoli in the 53rd minute, the final result in Group 1 of League D was 1:0 (0:0) against Liechtenstein. San Marino had achieved its last and only victory in an international match against the same opponent on April 28, 2004 (1:0). The 19-year-old Sensoli was not born until the following year.
