Sarawak is considering sending funds for youth to attend international conferences

KUCHING, OCT 16 – Sarawak’s Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development is considering steps to create a certain amount of funds to help send youths to attend international conferences that can help improve their leadership qualities.

Sarawak Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah admitted that financial constraints are among the reasons that prevent youth from participating in high-quality conferences that usually charge high fees.

“There is definitely a fee (to attend an international conference), and if they are just university students, they might have a little problem (paying the fee).

This is where I think my ministry should be able to help,” he told reporters outside the International Tropical Science Conference (TropSc) 2024 in Kuching today.

He said that although there is no specific scheme under his ministry to channel the aid, he will discuss with his senior officials about the possibility of allocating part of the RM10 million research fund, for that purpose.

“To begin with, maybe we can allocate one or two million (ringgit) for that purpose,” he said, adding that the funds do not require the presentation of the budget in the state assembly first to be prepared. – Named
