Pumpkin patch: Brecksville United Methodist Church is getting into the autumn spirit by launching its inaugural pumpkin patch starting on Mon., Oct. 14. The church lawn will be transformed into a festive display of pumpkins, gourds, and squash, offering a fun, family-friendly atmosphere for the entire community

Running daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Oct. 31, the patch will feature pumpkins of all shapes, sizes, and even a few different colors. Prices start at just $1, making it an affordable activity for families looking to enjoy the fall season. In addition to pumpkins, the weekends will bring games, photo opportunities, and refreshments, creating a welcoming environment for people of all ages.

BUMC is excited to invite everyone in the area to participate, not just to enjoy the autumnal décor, but also to support a good cause. This pumpkin patch is part of a larger initiative to help the church close its 2024 budget gap. The funds raised will go toward maintaining BUMC as a vibrant and inclusive space for the whole community, hosting worship services, weddings, funerals, philanthropy projects, classes, recovery meetings, recitals, and much more.

“We’re thrilled to host this pumpkin patch for the first time,” said Melanie Smith, Director of Communication & Connection. “With the community’s help, we will continue to be a safe space for gathering, offering support through determined service and living out our values of honest worship, courageous inclusion, lifelong learning, and joyful gathering.”

Brecksville United Methodist Church is located at 65 Public Square on the northwest corner in Brecksville. For more information, go to www.umc.org.

Town Center: The new Town Center Park officially opened Wed., Oct. 2 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and an afternoon of fun activities for families.

The new park, which took one year to construct, features an enclosed pavilion, playground with equipment for children with all ability levels, a splash pad, tennis, pickleball and sand volleyball courts, a half basketball court, food truck area and green space for community events.

There are also new walkways and sidewalks to make the entire Town Center area more pedestrian friendly.

Grants from Cuyahoga County, the state of Ohio and NOPEC paid a significant chunk of the cost of the project, with donations from local businesses, civic groups and individuals also contributing. The major donors were recognized at a lunch just before the ribbon-cutting, and a donor wall listing their names was unveiled at the pavilion.

Three sponsors donated enough money for naming rights. The park now includes the Brunswick Auto Mart/Medina Auto Mall Pavilion; the Strongsville City Club Playground; and the Robert “Bob” Hric Sports Courts.
The park is located next to the Recreation and Senior Center, 18100 Royalton Road.
