SC Magdeburg won its first home game of the season in the Champions League without any problems. The German handball champions beat the Norwegian title holders Kolstad Håndbold 33:25 (18:9). Magdeburg’s best scorer in front of 5,337 spectators was Albin Lagergren with eight goals.
Coach Bennet Wiegert had to do without Philipp Weber (adductors) as well as the long-term injured Tim Hornke and Felix Claar. Instead, pivot Oscar Bergendahl was available again. Unlike recently, the SCM did not sleep through the opening phase against the Norwegian double winners. After ten minutes, the hosts were leading by five goals and hardly conceded anything until halftime.
After that, Magdeburg were not so successful in the final stages, but thanks to saves from goalkeeper Sergey Hernandez they pulled ahead again by eight goals. After the opening defeat at Pick Szeged, Magdeburg thus picked up their first points in the championship coffers. Next week, SCM will travel to Aalborg, where the former Magdeburg player Maik Machulla is the coach.
