JOHOR BAHRU, 6 SEPT – Police arrested a bus driver who uploaded a video and posted pictures of the children he was carrying at Simpang Renggam, Kluang early this morning.
Johor Police Chief CP, M Kumar said the 24-year-old local man was arrested by a police team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Kluang District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 2:57 am and confiscated a mobile phone believed to be used for further investigation.
“Investigations are underway and the police welcome the cooperation of the parents of the children in the video recording to come forward to help the investigation,” he said in a statement today.
He said the case was investigated under Section 15(a)(iii) of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017 and Section 15 (2) of the Children Act 2001.
Yesterday a social media user X, shared a screenshot of a school bus driver’s TikTok post that referred to a female student as crush and ‘love’.
Following that, the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri ordered the Children’s Development Department (JPKK) to make a police report against the bus driver.
He said the behavior was unacceptable and became normalized following the act of sharing pictures or videos of children without the parents’ permission as a violation of children’s rights and privacy (Children’s Act 2001).
Nancy said her ministry is also willing to cooperate with the Women and Children Sexual Investigation Division (D11) of the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK).
