Shanghai evacuated hundreds of thousands of residents due to Typhoon Pulasan

SHANGHAI, SEPT 20 – Shanghai evacuated 112,000 residents as of this morning after several parts of the city were hit by heavy rain due to Typhoon Pulasan, reported Xinhua.

According to the municipal flood control office, a total of 54 train services were suspended and the operation of 26 ferries was stopped.

Rain has lashed Shanghai since 2am today, with the city’s average rainfall reaching 73.28 millimeters (mm) as of 9am local time.

A total of 151 out of 614 weather stations recorded heavy or extreme rain.

Yangjiazhai meteorological station in Fengxian district and Taman Nicheng meteorological station in Pudong district recorded readings of more than 300 mm of rain in six hours.

Pulasan, the 14th typhoon of the year, hit Fengxian, Shanghai at around 9:45pm yesterday, after first making landfall in Zhejiang Province on the same day. – Named
