Sinner, Alcaraz advanced to the fourth round of the Shanghai Masters

SHANGHAI, OCT 7 – Player No. 1 World, Jannik Sinner advanced to the fourth round of the ATP Shanghai Masters yesterday with a 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-2 victory over Argentine player Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

Etcheverry initially took the lead in the opening set when he converted a set point tiebreak which goes through a powerful volley.

However, the top seed remained calm under pressure in the second set. The two players battled it out in the fifth and sixth games, but the Italian eventually grabbed the opportunity to equalize.

Sinner found his momentum back in the deciding set by breaking his opponent’s serve in the third game. With that lead, the 23-year-old added another break in the sixth game to seal the victory.

“It was a very difficult match, physically and mentally, so I’m very happy to get through this match,” said Sinner, adding that patience is the key to success.

Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz, the world number two who beat Sinner at the China Open earlier this week, also confirmed his place in the fourth round after defeating wildcard China, Wu Yibing with 7-6 (5), 6-3 win.

Alcaraz praised Wu when the Chinese player opened the game with one point against him. “He didn’t let me play as aggressively as I used to play in the last few weeks. I had to put myself in the rally as long as I could,” said Alcaraz. – Xinhua
