Solon high-speed chase of stolen car ends in arrest of three men

SOLON, Ohio — Solon police engaged in a high-speed chase that resulted in the arrest of three men who were traveling in a stolen car with a weapon.

At 5:05 a.m. Oct. 5, an officer responded to an automated license plate reader alert of a stolen Ford Escape traveling in the city.

The officer saw the vehicle as it turned south onto Cochran Road, from Aurora Road. When a backup officer arrived, a traffic stop was initiated.

The suspect vehicle, however, failed to stop.

A pursuit ensued on southbound Cochran Road before heading east on Pettibone Road. Speeds reached up to 90 miles per hour on Pettibone Road.

Another Solon officer deployed Stop Sticks on Pettibone Road, at .S.O.M. Center Road, flattening two of the stolen vehicle’s tires.

During the pursuit, a bag of suspected cocaine and a stolen gun were thrown from the vehicle. Both items were later recovered.

Also during the pursuit, the suspect car slowed and let out a 47-year-old Cleveland man. Police took the man into custody. The vehicle then continued to flee until it stopped a short time later.

The driver, a Youngstown man, 25, and an additional passenger, an East Cleveland man, 44, were taken into custody without further incident.

The driver was found to be wanted on a warrant for a parole violation.

All three men were charged with felony drug possession; receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony; and having weapons under disability, a third-degree felony.

The driver was further charged with fleeing and eluding, a third-degree felony. The vehicle was towed and is to be returned to its owner.
