CDU top candidate Jan Redmann clearly missed out on a direct mandate in the state elections in Brandenburg. According to the state election commission, the 44-year-old came third in his constituency in Prignitz behind State Parliament President Ulrike Liedtke of the SPD and AfD candidate Henry Preuß.
Redmann received 16.6 percent of the vote in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin I constituency, Liedtke received 34.6 percent of the vote. AfD candidate Preuß received 32.2 percent.
Redmann was first elected to the state parliament in 2014 and took over the chairmanship of the CDU parliamentary group in 2019. State Parliament President Liedtke, second on the SPD state list behind top candidate Dietmar Woidke, has been a member of the state parliament in Potsdam since 2014. She was also elected to the state parliament via a direct mandate in 2019, at that time with 23.6 percent of the first votes. Five years earlier, Liedtke had received 36.3 percent.
Redmann ran for the first time in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin I constituency. In the 2019 state election, he came third in the Prignitz II/Ostprignitz-Ruppin II constituency and, as he did now, entered the state parliament via the state list.
