State security investigates bomb threats at schools

After Bomb threats at several schools in Brandenburg State security is investigating. A police spokeswoman said when asked that they would first examine the motive. State security is investigating suspected politically motivated crimes.

On Monday, the police in western Brandenburg were informed by 16 schools about identical emails with threatening content. 13 schools in Brandenburg an der Havel, two in Potsdam and one in Kleinmachnow in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district were affected. The police checked each of the affected schools on site to see whether security was at risk, but found no evidence. In isolated cases, classes were cancelled.

Bomb threats were also received at several schools in Rhineland-Palatinate and Hamburg that day. Some of the threats were related to Situation in the Middle East.

Just last week, several Berlin schools received emails containing threats. According to the police, they were not to be taken seriously. State security is investigating for disturbances of the public peace through threats of criminal acts, it said.

In Brandenburg, there was initially no precise information about who had written the emails and what the motivation was. In the course of further investigations, this will be followed up and comparisons will also be made with cases in other federal states, said the police spokeswoman. (dpa)
