Storm Track 3 Forecast: Brief cooldown tomorrow, above average temps return

Temperatures are unseasonably hot this evening with a cold front entering Kansas.

Storm Track 3 Forecast: Brief cooldown tomorrow, above average temps return

High fire danger is expected in portions of Northcentral and Western Kansas up to Southwest Nebraska through Monday evening.  Several counties are under Red Flag Warnings.

With the arrival of the cold front, winds will pick up and gust between 30 and 45 MPH through tonight.

Unfortunately, this frontal passage sweeps through dry.  We have little to no moisture to work with right now.

Temperatures will drop overnight but not be too terribly cool, although our northwest counties will be in the chillier air longer than the rest of the state.

Tuesday also looks like it will be a sun-filled day with temperatures feeling milder and more refreshing.

That said, the cooldown does not last long.  Temperatures will spike on Wednesday.  Some temps in western Kansas may make it into the record books for the degree of heat.

In addition, winds also pick back up Wednesday into Thursday. This could also enable more high fire danger in the west.

Another front comes into play by Friday.  This will reduce temps briefly for Friday Football Fever before heating up on Saturday.

Still, no moisture. We will then have another front by the end of the weekend into early next week.  This will also reduce temps closer to average for next week.

The earliest we may see any moisture, may not be until a pattern change toward the middle of October!  Not good for our drought.  It will only worsen during this stretch.
