Storm Track 3 Forecast: Fall like temperatures arriving and staying dry.

Summer-like temperatures persisted across most of the state on Saturday with record highs in South-Central Kansas including Wichita.

Storm Track 3 Forecast: Fall like temperatures arriving and staying dry.

A cold front pushed through the Sunflower state through Saturday night, but failed to produce any rainfall.

With mainly clear skies, dry ground and dry air, temperatures turned noticeably cooler overnight.

A large Canadian high pressure system will continue to build south through the Central Plains today. Temperatures will run several degrees lower than Saturday along with a gusty north to northeast breeze making it feel much more like we would expect in mid-October.

The winds will diminish Sunday night along with mainly clear starry skies allowing temperatures to fall to the coolest levels we’ve seen since late this past Spring.

Areas of scattered frost are expected late tonight into Monday morning across portions of northern Kansas and southwest Nebraska. Frost advisories are in effect. Be sure to cover any outdoor plants or even bring them indoors tonight across the northern parts of the region.

The cool Canadian air mass will become even better entrenched across the Central Plains to start the workweek Monday resulting in below-average temperatures, but there will be plenty of sunshine.

As the large high pressure system pushes to our east later this week, strong southerly winds will spread across the region bringing an increase in temperatures and an increase in fire danger.

By the end of the week, a storm system coming out of the western United States will finally bring us enough moisture for some much-needed showers and storms.
