Cool and windy today with highs in the 50s and 60s. This is well below the seasonal normal, as we should be in the low 70s for this time in October.
Temperatures will crash tonight as cold air continues to rush into the region. Lows below freezing are expected for most.
Freeze Warnings are in place for almost the entire state. Make sure to cover any sensitive plants or bring them inside.
Winds do not lighten up tomorrow, but our wind direction does shift to be out of the south. Gusts over 40 MPH are not out of the question for Wednesday.
Fire Weather Watches and Warnings are in place through 7 PM on Wednesday. Conditions are still incredibly dry and the strong winds will help spread any spark that starts. Please avoid any outdoor burning.
Southerly winds help temperatures warm back up for the second half of the week. We return to the 70s by Thursday and Friday.
Rain chances increase late Friday night and linger through the weekend. A piece of energy will try to push into the Sunflower State this weekend. Western Kansas will benefit from the most rainfall as moisture will struggle to hold together through central Kansas.
But we will take any drop of rain we can get as rainfall has been pitiful so far this month.Â
