Storm Track 3 Forecast: Kansas stays warm and dry, tropical storm in the Gulf

Cooler and even drier air is settling into Kansas this morning, and this will bring a more pleasant day after several record highs were set yesterday.

Starting from the upper 50 and low 60s, Wichita will climb to the low 80s by afternoon.

Highs statewide will be in the 70s and 80s under a mostly sunny sky.

Due to the dry air and breezy conditions, fire danger will remain elevated especially for central to eastern Kansas.

Tonight temperatures drop to the 40s and low 50s. A little chilly outside for many!

Monday will feature more pleasant conditions. Winds turn out of the southeast, and that is the start of a gradual warming trend that will carry us through the week.

A weak disturbance passing through the upper atmosphere may be able to spark a sprinkle or two in south-central Kansas Tuesday morning, but this will not amount to much—if anything.

Returning to the upper 80s and perhaps low 90s by the end of the week and staying just about dry the whole time. High pressure rooted to our southwest will keep things dry and warm.

There are some indications that our pattern may start to break down by the middle of the month, about 9 to 10 days down the road. This is still just an early possibility, and is far from assured, but there may be a few glimmers of hope.

In the Gulf of Mexico, Tropical Storm Milton is gathering strength and is expected to grow into a strong hurricane over the coming days before setting its sights on Florida. No impacts to Kansas, but we will be watching for yet another potentially significant hurricane strike for our friends in the Sunshine State by Wednesday or Thursday.
