Storm Track 3 Forecast: Record highs and fire danger Saturday, cooler Sunday

Winds made the switch and cooled us off today.  This will be short before a return flow from the south cooks us early this weekend ahead of the next cold front.

Storm Track 3 Forecast: Record highs and fire danger Saturday, cooler Sunday

Perfect weather is planned for Friday Football Fever.  The dry atmosphere and light winds will allow temps to pleasantly cool for evening plans.  This is homecoming night for many high schools across Kansas.

Saturday morning will be a milder start.  Winds pick up by mid-morning.  Winds will be sustained for much of the state between 15 and 25 MPH.  Winds will gust from 30-40 with a few gusts reaching 45 MPH.

Another cool front will enter the region and create their uptick in wind speeds.  Temperatures will also spike into the 90s.  A few records may be broken for the heat.

In addition, the threat for wildfires will rise.  Fire Weather Warnings are in effect on Saturday.

The wildfire threat reaches critical levels farther northwest.  That said, elevated fire concerns are also a concern from southwest into central and northeastern Kansas.  Winds will be maxed along this corridor ahead of the front through Saturday evening, enhancing the threat.

Temperatures drop back to the upper 70s and lower 80s on Sunday and warm mainly to the 80s all next week.  Models continue to hint at a strip of sprinkles and showers in central Kansas Monday night into Tuesday morning.

This will not be much on the backside of an area of high pressure that tracks to the east of us.  There is just enough energy and moisture to squeeze a bit from the sky.  There is another shot for a sprinkle or a shower over western Kansas Thursday into Thursday night.

Again, moisture looks meager because we are grasping at straws right now.  Next cold front arrives late next weekend with another reinforcing shot of cooler, not colder air.
